Construction Standards & Guidelines

Design Services

CPDC design services provide architectural, interior design and other technical applications to design buildings and spaces throughout campus. Whether it is something as simple as updating furniture in a classroom to remodeling Leigh Lounge, our talented team of architects, and designers will find a sustainable solution for every client.

Project Construction Management

The CPDC Project Manager (PM) is responsible for managing construction projects and serving as liaison between the University, clients, contractors, architects, and engineers to insure a successful project process and completion. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Project and Budget Management
    • Manage the design and construction phases of University construction projects.
    • Work with clients to define the scope of the project, design criteria, programming, budget limitations and other considerations.
    • Ensure that campus standards, and state and federal building, plumbing, electrical, fire, ADA, and similar codes are compiled within the design and construction phases of projects.
    • Act as primary on-site construction coordinator and owner's representative on projects.
    • Process change orders and coordinate the various phases of a project with different in-house work groups and outside contractors.
    • Monitor project budgets and expenditures, and maintain project records.
    • Inspect ongoing and completed work, ensuring that project details are completed.
    • Authorize payment for contracted services and close out projects.
    • Act as liaison and facilitator between Montana State University, Montana State Architecture and Engineering Division (State A&E), contractors, architects and engineers to help resolve programming, estimating and design and construction issues.
  2. Contract Enforcement
    • Enforce contract requirements and MSU policies and procedures.
    • Answer questions and resolve issues involving construction documents and contracts for MSU clients, contractors, architects and engineers.
  3. Planning and Analysis
    • Perform maintenance needs analysis.
    • Perform project feasibility analysis.
    • Provide project planning.
    • Coordinate and assist Facilities Services personnel with maintenance projects.
