This is a female march fly. Members of this family of flies are known for their extremely long matings. Some members of the family are called lovebugs. The larvae are generally herbivorous and feed on decaying plant matter. Most adult stages of march flies have relatively short lifespans. There are more than 650 known species within the Bibionidae family.
