Camponotus sp.

This is Camponotus modoc, also known as the western carpenter ant. Ants in this genus are large and live in forest habitats. Colonies can be found in standing and fallen dead trees. This species is widely distributed throughout North America. Its reproductive males and females can be seen flying from April through July.
