Tenthredinid Sawfly
This is a tenthredinid sawfly. There are more than 730 species in this family. The larvae resemble caterpillars. Females have saw-like ovipositors that are used to cut into plant material to lay their eggs. These common sawflies are typically found in meadows and in forests near streams.
