Polygonia satyrus

This is Polygonia satyrus, the satyr comma butterfly. This species is primarily found in the northwestern region of North America. The larva primarily feeds on stinging nettle but also takes advantage of other nettle hosts if needed. Larvae possess black branched spines and have light green lines that run along the body. Adult satyr comma butterflies are typically found in woodlands and streamsides where its preferred food source grows.
