Smerinthus sp. (probably cerisyi)
Smerinthus (probably cerisyi) is also known as the one-eyed sphinx moth. It gets its name from a single eye-like feature on each of its hind wings. It is a large moth, but only medium-sized for a sphinx moth; the forewing is 30- to 41-mm long. Adults of this species do not feed, but caterpillars prefer pear, plum, poplar, or willow leaves. The female adult releases her pheromones with an extended scent gland to lure mates.
