ASMSU -- Associated Students of Montana State University

ASMSU has three vacant Senate seats for spring semester 2016. We are seeking:

  • 1 Letters and Sciences student
  • 2 Education Health and Human Services students

ASMSU is seeking students to represent the college as an ASMSU Senator for Spring 2016 semester.  Mid-year replacement Senators are appointed through a majority vote of Senate, no campaign or election necessary. Senate will review applications, invite the top three candidates in for a very brief interview, then select their preferred candidate by a ballot vote in the January 28th Senate meeting. The selected Senator will serve the remainder of the 2015-2016 year.

To be considered for this volunteer Senate position please follow these steps:

  1. Apply before January 27th at this website: https://www.montana.edu/asmsu/applications/senator-application.html
  2. (Strongly suggested but not required) Submit a resume to asmsusenatepres@msu.montana.edu  to share your qualifications
  3. Top candidates will be invited to speak very briefly at the Senate Meeting on January 28th and Senate will ballot vote to select a candidate

If appointed by the majority vote of the Senate, you will join the Senate table and begin your duties that day, serving through the remainder of the school year. If you would like to be a Senator for 2016-2017, election season begins in February, culminating in March 8th and 9th general election.

Represent students in your college in this exciting engagement opportunity. It will develop your personal and professional skills and look great on your resume.

If you have questions, please contact Senate Speaker Josh Soares asmsusenatepres@msu.montana.edu or speak with the Senators in your college. To find your Senators, click here: http://www.montana.edu/asmsu/senate.html

President Birky and Vice President Capp's Joint Address

Fellow Bobcats,

Over the past few weeks ASMSU underwent transition in leadership, and we would like to thank you for your feedback throughout the process.  As we move forward, we’re eager to keep communication open throughout the rest of this year.  “Your vision, our Mission” is our guiding principle as your student leaders, and we’d love to hear from you.  ASMSU as an organization remains committed to representing and serving the student community:

We’re committed to SERVICE.  As the student government we’re here for you, the students.  Look for your representatives on the mall in the coming weeks – we want to hear about what matters to you, and how your student leaders can make your voice heard on campus.  And as always, we welcome all students to stop by our office in SUB 221 for free coffee every morning, and to chat with your senators and executive team.

We’re committed to community STEWARDSHIP.   In the recent election, the new Student Bill of Rights and ASMSU Constitution received overwhelming support.  We’re excited to be moving forward with these initiatives: protecting students’ rights, and strengthening the integrity of our governance.  And we remain dedicated to providing you with the highest standard of representation and financial responsibility, as well as quality programs.

We’re committed to ENGAGEMENT.  This year, there are more opportunities than ever to be involved at MSU and in the community.  From the Gold Rush tailgate, to the Homecoming barbeque, bonfire, and parade, performance events, and MSU traditions, it’s never been a better time to be a Bobcat.  We’re off to a great start, and look forward to seeing you at one of the many ASMSU events this year.

As your new executive team, we’re already hard at work to serve and represent students to the administration, in the Bozeman community, and at the state level.   We look forward to hearing from you so that we can best fulfill our mission.  Feel free to stop by our office hours, give us a call, or send us an email.

In Blue and Gold,

Levi Birky                                                                             Holly Capp
