NVFC releases White Paper on Training in the Volunteer Fire Service

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is committed to ensuring that volunteer firefighters have an appropriate level of training to safely and effectively carry out their responsibilities. As part of its efforts, the NVFC has released a white paper concerning training in the volunteer fire service and the need for improvement.

CSX Launches Free Interactive Training for First Responders

CSX recently launched a free, online training program to educate emergency personnel on how to safely respond to incidents on and around railroad property and equipment. The site at www.csxsafe.com, is the first of its kind launched by a U.S. railroad for this audience.

Pipeline Awareness

The Pipeline Association has made available free online training scenarios developed to assist fire departments, law enforcement and other emergency personnel to safely respond to pipeline incidents. Since these seem to happen on a regular basis in Jefferson County, it might be something that you can use in your training meetings. The training requires a registration, but no cost. training.pipelineawareness.org

CDC Field Triage Guide

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a report with guidelines to ensure that trauma patients with more severe injuries are taken to trauma centers designed to handle those injuries. These recommendations attempt to standardize decision-making at an emergency scene as well as provide some guidance on new technologies like vehicle crash notification systems. Other revisions to the guide include: * Recommendations for the right place and right time to best use crucial emergency care resources. * Vehicle crash damage criteria which can help determine which patients may require care at a trauma center.
