Our Department's Mission is to Train Undergraduate, Graduate and Postdoctoral Students for Careers in Microbiology - through Excellence in Teaching, Research and Service
The Department of Microbiology is one of the most relevant, dynamic and exciting disciplines in the biological sciences.
One of our main goals is to prepare students for leadership roles as microbiologists in industry, government agencies, health related fields, environmental health, and university teaching and research.
Our research facilities at MSU include modern, well-equipped laboratories and specialized state of the art equipment for instruction and research. Our department is also privileged to have a superb faculty who are not only internationally recognized for their research, but also committed to teaching, training, and inspiring students in the microbiological sciences.
We are truly unique in our close proximity to Yellowstone National Park. On our doorstep is one of the most exciting microbial ecosystems in North America ripe with opportunities to discover new microbial life forms and contribute to major biotechnological advances. Many of our undergraduates and graduate students conduct research in the Park under the mentorship of our distinguished faculty.
The discipline of microbiology is diverse, and the job opportunities for microbiologists are enormous. The Department would like to welcome students to join us in exploring this exciting discipline.
