Data Governance
Data Governance is the "processes, policies, and goals for managing institutional data, typically including policies and standards for data access, data quality, security and privacy, compliance, and retention and archiving. Data governance fosters collaboration, transparency, and communication throughout the institution" (EDUCAUSE). It should also improve efficiency and enable data insights for the university.
Montana State University-Bozeman is undergoing a revitalization of our data governance efforts under the guidance of the University Data & Analytics and University Information Technology teams. We are currently researching best practices in data governance, and interviewing members of the community regarding data practices. We are looking for University-wide participation in these efforts, so if you are interested, please email Mary Kate Blake, the Data Governance Manager. As formalize this program, we will update this site with helpful resources for campus.
