It is mandatory that all sheep and goats are tagged with a USDA scrapie tag.

GENERAL GOAT RULES:

  1. All entries will be veterinarian inspected entry day.
  2. Goats to be trained to be shown by collar or small link chain during the show. When showing a goat, the goat’s feet must remain on the ground while shown, except for setting feet.
  3. Due to goats stalling in sheep barn, refer to General Rules for sheep. Also, refer to overall livestock exhibit rules, livestock building rules, livestock sale rules, large animal showmanship rules and 4-H Code of Ethics.
  4. Goats do not need to be disbudded to show.

SPECIAL MARKET GOAT RULES:

  1. Entries limited to doe or wether goats under 1 year of age as of the fair. Milk (baby) teeth must be in place.  Cryptorchidism in wethers will be disqualified.
  2. Market Goats shall be tagged and weighed at the Valley County 4-H spring scheduled weigh-in/tag-in day of current year. Members can tag up to 2 (two) goats, but only 1 (one) can be entered as a 4-H Market Goat.
  3. Entry day, weigh Market Goats at time of Market Lamb Weigh-in – refer to schedule.
  4. At entry day weigh-in, Market Goats are required to weigh a minimum of 70 pounds to be eligible to show in the market class and sell at the Valley County 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale. A feeder class will be created for market goat projects which do not make weight.
  5. Market goats will be judged according to weight, condition, cutability and conformation.
  6. Market goats will be sold by the pound.
  7. Refer to Livestock Sale Rules.

SPECIAL BREEDING GOAT RULES:

  1. All breeding goats to be in the possession of the exhibitor by May 15, of the current year. The Exhibitor to be the primary caretaker and trainer.
  2. Breeding goats (Dairy and Non-Dairy) will be judged upon breed type and characteristics, body capacity, mammary and reproduction systems. Breeding goat projects will be exhibited only - - they cannot be sold at the Valley County  4-H & FFA Livestock Sale.

NOTE: Class 7, Any Other - Exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit in “any other”, as long as the breed is not duplicated or entered in Classes 2 - 6.

ZGO  CLASS 8 - - Crossbred Goats

NOTE: Class 8, Crossbred - Exhibitor may enter more than one entry in “Crossbred” provided cross breeding is not duplicated.

Lot Number – DAIRY

  1. Doe -- Under 12 months of age
  2. Doe -- 1 to under 2 years of age - never freshened
  3. Doe -- 1 to under 2 years of age - milking
  4. Doe --2 years of age and over that has freshened or is currently milking
  5. Buck -- under 12 months of age
  6. Dam and Daughter – any age – must be shown in individual classes first
