IV.  New Program BSLA-BS in Landscape Architecture (First Reading, Chair-elect Richards)

•  Replaces Landscape Design Option of Environmental Horticulture BS in Plant Sciences and Pathology Department. Program will be accredited by Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB). No accredited Landscape Architecture program exists in the State of Montana. Retain and recruit students

•  Montana does not yet require degree from an accredited program for licensure. Degree from an accredited program is required by 46 states and two Canadian Provinces. Lack of license reduces competitiveness in regional and national marketplace

•  Current students in Landscape Design will transition to Landscape Architecture. Retain students who may otherwise have left to pursue accredited degree elsewhere.

•  Anticipated growth from 28 students to 50-60 students in the accredited program.

•  Programmatic emphasis on science, rural/regional planning and habitat restoration

•  Phase-in 7 new courses

LARC 120 (HORT 120), 201, 202, 301 and 401 Design Studio Series

Five years (2022) to apply for “Initial Accreditation”
