Distinguished Speakers Series

Charis Kubrin, professor of criminology at the University of California, Irvine, gave a talk about the use of rap music lyrics in courtrooms as evidence of a defendant’s guilt.
Willy Vlautin, novelist and lead singer and songwriter for the band Richmond Fontaine, presented "How a Song Becomes a Novel."
Sahotra Sarkar, a professor of philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin, discussed nature vs. nurture in the postgenomic era.
Dianne Pinderhughes, the Notre Dame Presidential Faculty Fellow Professor, discussed the changing scope of Black interests and politics in recent decades.

In the spring of 2011, the College of Letters & Science initiated the Letters & Science Distinguished Speakers Series to help departments bring distinguished scholars to campus to give a public talk and to meet with faculty and students. The goals of this program are to enrich the intellectual life of our campus and to enhance the research connections of both faculty and students.
