Julie Heard - Office of Academic Affairs and Provost

In August, I started my 15th year with MSU.  In 2007, I joined MSU Extension and it was the perfect introduction to Montana State.  Through Extension I was able to interact with almost every unit, department and college, and learn the inner workings of academics, outreach, research, and so much more.  It was due to the knowledge that I learned through Extension that I felt prepared to take on my next challenge in Academic Affairs. Since 2014, I have been the Executive Assistant to the Office of Academic Affairs and Provost (Long title).  My current position is very hard to define and best described as “Other duties as assigned”.  The Provost at Montana State oversees all aspects of academic life to include faculty, curriculum, and accreditation, just to name a few.  I am able to assist in all areas and am excited to embrace the challenges of each new day.  I am a Butte native, so outside of MSU I enjoy spending time in our amazing outdoors.  I have 3 Labrador Retrievers which means I am never lacking for a walking buddy.

What is All Staff Council?

Montana State University All Staff Council (MSUASC) is the university's shared staff governance. Our primary mission is to serve as the voice of MSU staff. We are here to help promote a positive and collaborative campus work environment while advising the President and senior administrators on employee engagement and the MSU working climate.

MUSASC provides a channel for the communication of interests, concerns, and issues that impact staff while helping to promote and strengthen communication between University units. We also provide and promote professional development for staff and gather important input on strategic goals and initiatives of the university.

Have you met your All Staff Council members? The council is elected by the staff every year and members serve two year-terms. A council member's service extends beyond council membership. Each member serves on one of the council's internal committees (Governance, Professional Development, Special Events, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) or represents staff on one of 15 external campus committees (e.g. Planning Council, Budget Council,  or the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC). The council also creates groups/teams to manage special projects to benefit staff.

We are here to help and want to listen to your needs. Do you have something you want to bring to the council for discussion? The council meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9:00AM. Locations are posted on the MSUASC website or email [email protected] for more information.

**The council is NOT a labor union and not authorized to engage in activities related to terms and conditions of employment such as wages, union business, promotion, or individual workloads.

Skip Anderson - The Center for BioFilm Engineering

I am a communications specialist who works with internationally known PhDs who lead the world in biofilm research. I joined MSU full time about 4 years ago after working as a freelance journalist for the MSU News Office for two years prior. I am from Nashville, Tennessee, where I was twice voted music journalist of the year. Andrea, my wife, birthed our smart, loving, funny, and curious daughter two weeks after I started at the CBE. Berit is now in preschool on campus at the Child Development Center, which is a happy 5-minute walk from my office in Barnard Hall. Fun fact: We’ve known for years that Berit’s great uncle was an admiral in the U.S. Navy. However, it wasn’t until recently that we learned his middle name was “Barrett.” Pure coincidence.

Susan Andrus - MSU Writing Center

Susan Andrus has been the Academic & Administrative Coordinator in the MSU Writing Center for the past four years but previously worked in MSU Conference & Event Services for four and a half years. She came to MSU as a student in 2002 and eventually earned undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Sociology. She earned her Master’s in Public Administration in spring 2021 and is currently working on a College Teaching Certificate through the MSU Department of Education. Andrus was elected to join All Staff Council in the fall of 2020 and serves on the ADA Advisory Committee. Three kids, a partner, and a cat keep her on her toes at home. She’d love to have more time to read for pleasure this fall, but is grateful for the opportunity to both continue her education as a student in a college teaching course and contribute to the education of a handful of new MSU students by teaching a section of Writing 101.
