The Pre-Award Office personnel can assist in the earliest stages of proposal development by identifying potential sponsors for a project. The staff maintain up-to-date electronic databases, reference books, reports, directories, guidelines, forms and newsletters from federal, state and private agencies which can be consulted with a particular project in mind. The Pre-Award staff can help broaden the pool of possible sponsors by visiting with researchers.

Current information about a particular sponsor, including the program deadline, the review process, allowable costs, past and present funding priorities and agency personnel is available through the Pre-Award office.

Searchable databases of funding sources (SPIN (from InfoEd Intl), Community of Science, and The Grant Advisor) are available to MSU faculty and students. Since these are subscription based services, access is limited to MSU campuses. Funding alert services are also available.

Faculty profiles can be created in GENIUS (from InfoEd Intl) and in Community of Science. Choose keywords that identify your areas of research interest, and you will receive e-mail alerts of new funding opportunities as they become available. Search the GENIUS and COS Expertise databases to identify collaborators worldwide. Call the Pre Award office (994-6240) for assistance.

Researchers are welcome to visit the Pre-Award Office in 303 Montana Hall to browse our files of information, and use the computer for Pre-Award activities such as searching the databases, downloading forms, scanning letters of support, and converting your files to PDF.
