Freshman Classes:

Once a week, you will have your MAS class. Freshmen will take Foundations of the United States Air Force on either Tuesdays or Thursdays for one hour.

Twice a week, you will wake up early to be at the gym by 0600 for Physical Training. PT goes from 0600-0700 every Tuesday and Thursday, and you will wear your PT Uniform correctly every time. PT is a good workout, but it is a very good idea to work out on your own time too.

Every Wednesday is uniform day. You will wear your uniform all day and at the end of the day you will have Leadership Laboratory from 1610-1800. Lead Lab is a chance for cadets to learn about Customs and Courtesies and to participate in team building exercises.

Freshman Activities:

On the first day of Lead Lab, you will be assigned as a member in a Squadron (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.). There is a good chance you will have squadron meetings once a week or once every other week. This is in order to build esprit de corps, or flight morale, and to increase the motivation within the squadron. This is also a chance for your squadron commander to check in on you and for you to ask any questions or resolve any issues you might have.

If you choose to join drill team or color guard you will have practices during the week. Drill Team will perform 2 or 3 times during the semester at school events. Color Guard has the chance to present the colors for Football and Basketball Games.

You will be considered a GMC (General Military Course) your freshman and sophomore years. One of your fellow GMC cadets will be appointed as your Advocate (GMCA). The GMCA is one of the highest performing GMCs in our program and serves as your advocate. If you have any questions or concerns, you can go to the GMCA. If you need help with anything or want information, you can go to them. Your GMCA will hold meetings a few times during the semester to check in with everyone and make sure everything is going alright.

Overview for Freshman:

Your schedule your freshman year will be pretty flexible, so don't worry about taking on too much or being overwhelmed. Everyone in the AFROTC program understands that school comes first. That being said, it's a good idea to get involved. Joining Drill Team or Color Guard is a very good way to get involved, get noticed, and meet people. AFROTC is a great way to make friends you will keep forever while starting a career at the same time.
