Rehabilitating pit lakes for mine closure--A new frontier for aquatic ecologists - Dr. Mark Lund, Associate Professor, Edith Cowan University - Co-Principal, Mine Water & Environment Research Centre, Joondalup, Western Australia
Dr. Lund has worked at Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Perth, Western Australia (WA) for 20 years, with7 years as Head of School for Natural Sciences. He is an aquatic ecologist with a strong interest in rehabilitation of degraded inland aquatic systems, with a strong focus on water chemistry. Since 1996, Dr. Lund has worked on pit lakes primarily in Collie (WA). Supporting his pit lake work has been success in gaining 11 Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) grants (Australian Commonwealth Competitive), as well as direct funding from the mining industry. He was a founding member of the WA Centre for Excellence - Centre for Sustainable Mine Lakes and has established along with Dr. Clint McCullough the Mine Water and Environment Research Centre at ECU.
