Candidate for chief information officer position to visit campus Feb. 5

Four candidates for the position of chief information officer at Montana State University will visit campus from Jan. 31-Feb. 7.
MSU's new CIO will provide oversight, management and strategic planning for the university's information technology infrastructure, including the campus data networking and systems; classroom learning technology; information security; campus telephone system; the university-wide administrative software system; and Web infrastructure and user support services. The CIO will be a member of MSU's senior leadership team and report to MSU President Waded Cruzado and Provost Martha Potvin.
The finalists listed chronologically by their campus visits are:
Dilawar Grewal, independent consultant. Previously, Grewal held leadership and management positions in IT and other areas at Wagner College, the University of Kansas, East Tennessee State University and Texas A&M University. Grewal has a master's degree from The Ohio State University and a doctorate from Texas A&M University. Grewal's open forum will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in the Byker Auditorium.
Steve Chen, chief information officer, Hudson Valley Community College. Previously, Chen held IT leadership and management positions at the University of Texas at Brownsville, South Texas College of Law, Utica College, The City College of the City University of New York and Purdue University. He has a master's degree and a doctorate, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Chen's open forum will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in the Procrastinator Theater.
Sean Jackson, chief information officer, the University of Virginia School of Medicine and the University of Virginia Physicians Group. Previously, Jackson held leadership and management positions in IT and other areas at universities and businesses, including The United Way of Connecticut, Stanley Black and Decker, Yale University, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Yale University School of Medicine and Fulcrum Design Group. He has a master's degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from the University of Southern California. Jackson's open forum will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the Procrastinator Theater.
Jerry Sheehan, chief of staff, California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology. Previously, Sheehan held IT leadership and management positions at Purdue University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has a master's degree from Eastern Illinois University. Sheehan's open forum will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in the Procrastinator Theater.
MSU hopes to have a new CIO in place no later than July 1. Associate Provost Ron Larsenis the search committee's chair.
The new chief information officer will succeed Dewitt Latimer, who passed away in May. Since May, Adam Edelman has served as interim chief information officer and Anne Milkovich has served as interim associate chief information officer.
