Montana State University, School of Architecture, is proud to present Christopher Marcinkoski and Andrew Moddrell, who will present their lecture "Urbanisms" on Thursday evening, March 27th at 5:30 p.m., in Gaines Hall, Room 101. They will be discussing some of PORT's most current projects. PORT Architecture Urbanism is a Chicago-based innovative design consultancy specializing in the analysis, visioning and design of new forms of collective space, ranging in scale from parks and master plans to regional landscapes. PORT began as a speculative design and research collaboration between Christopher Marcinkoski and Andrew Moddrell in 2004 and was formally established in 2010. The partners bring a significant body of expertise and experience from prior senior-level positions at James Corner Field Operations of New York as well as Garofalo Architects and UrbanLab of Chicago.
Ongoing projects include a 51-mile planning study for the Los Angeles River Greenway (Los Angeles River Revitalization Corp.); the design and construction of a 14-acre civic venue in Denver's City Park (Denver Parks and Recreation); the public realm design for the Moscow International Financial City (SOM Chicago); and a visioning study for the Calumet Core region located in southeast Chicago and northwest Indiana (Openlands). In addition to leading PORT A U, Mr. Marcinkoski and Mr. Moddrell each hold academic appointments, at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Illinois-Chicago, respectively.
Christopher Marcinkoski is a founding director of PORT Architecture Urbanism. Prior to founding PORT, Mr. Marcinkoski was a senior associate at James Corner Field Operations in New York City, where he led much of the office's large-scale master planning and urban design work including the Qianhai Water City in Shenzhen and Shelby Farms Park in Memphis. Mr. Marcinkoski is currently an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of the forthcoming book The City That Never Was - Urbanization After the Bubble.
Andrew Moddrell is a founding director of PORT Architecture Urbanism. Mr. Moddrell is also a Clinical Assistant Professor teaching graduate and undergraduate design studios related to contemporary issues of urbanism at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Architecture.
