Great American ShakeOut Earthquake Drill
- Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 8:00am to 5:00pm
Montana State University will participate in the 2014 Great Montana ShakeOut drill, which will take place across Montana and the Rocky Mountain region on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Organized by the State of Montana Disaster and Emergency Services, Governor's Office of Community Service, Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology, the American Red Cross of Montana and local partners, the drill will bring awareness to the MSU community about what to do in the event of an earthquake.
"Bozeman is located in a seismically active earthquake hazard zone. Earthquakes are unpredictable and may strike at any time," said Tara Moore, director of MSU's Office of Emergency Management.
Moore said that the advised procedure during earthquakes is for those experiencing them to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On." More information can be found at Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety from the Earthquake Country Alliance website.
Moore said that when the members of the MSU community receives MSU Alert text and emails during the Oct. 22 drill, they are asked to take a moment to consider how they would respond to an earthquake using the technique.
