Bringing the U to You: Donna Koch
- Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
- Great Falls College MSU
In early 1964 when Bob Dylan sang "The Times They Are A-Changin," neither he nor the country anticipated how prophetic those lyrics would be in politics, the arts, American society, and foreign affairs. From a presidential election to Vietnam, from a Kremlin shakeup to the Beatles, from Freedom Summer to "Fiddler on the Roof," the year was a pivotal one whose influence stretches into the 21st century.
Based on a MOLLI (Montana Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) course at the University of Montana last fall, this lecture will illuminate, through a multi-media presentation, the people, conflicts, and triumphs of this fascinating year and relate them to 2015.
Donna Koch has taught English and American history at Ball State University in Indiana and Tidewater Community College in Virginia. She has led book discussion groups for Humanities Montana and taught five courses for MOLLI including a co-taught World War II History and Novels course which was also presented to the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation. With a master's degree in English from Illinois State University and a master's degree in American history from Old Dominion University, Koch enjoys a multi-disciplinary approach to writing and teaching which weaves in the threads of connections, comparison, context, and complexities.
