Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Ivan Doig’s This House of Sky
- Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
- Country Bookshelf, 28 W. Main St., Bozeman
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the publication of Ivan Doig's beloved Montana memoir, This House of Sky: Landscapes of a Western Mind. Published in 1978 to critical acclaim, it captured the voice of a young boy growing up in central Montana and along the Rocky Mountain front and has inspired two generations of readers and writers. As testament to that, the event will also celebrate the publication of the latest issue of Montana The Magazine of Western History, which is dedicated to the work and life of Ivan Doig. Only on rare occasions has Montana published a special issue concerning a topic of particular interest to Montana and the West. This issue was set in motion after the Doig Country symposium held at MSU in September 2017 and features essays by many of the symposium speakers.
On October 30, Country Bookshelf at 28 W. Main St., Bozeman will host a celebratory evening from 6-8 pm. There will be a short program on This House of Sky and the editors of the special issue of Montana The Magazine of Western History will introduce that work. Signed copies of This House of Sky, donated by Carol Doig, will be awarded in a trivia contest designed to test your knowledge of the book. We'll have birthday cake. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
This program is sponsored by the Center for Western Lands & Peoples, the MSU Library, and the Country Bookshelf.
