Market Beef Weigh-In and How to Feed Your Market Beef Workshop will be on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Western Livestock Auction (406 Vaughn South Frontage Rd, Great Falls). The workshop will begin at 2:30 p.m. and steers will be weighed from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Parents are asked to help weigh-in steers while 4-H members are learning. The workshop speaker is Adriane Good, MSU Pondera County Agriculture Agent. Adrianne will discuss how to properly feed a 4-H market steer to finish. She grew up in Brooks, Alberta, Canada where she showed beef sheep, and dairy in 4-H. She was also on the 4-H livestock judging team. Adrianne grew up working on a large feedlot while raising a small flock of sheep. She was a key member for the Newell District and an ambassador for the Southern Region. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelors in Animal Science and Masters in Ruminant Nutrition. Adrianne now resides in Conrad, Montana where she is the Agriculture Extension Agent. The Market Beef Weigh-In is not mandatory nor does the 4-H member need to be present, however, to be eligible for cash prizes at the Cascade County 4-H Livestock show, the market steer must be weighed in January and July. The steers with the three highest average daily gain ratios are paid $100 for first place, $60 for second place, and $40 for third place. A registration form for the Market Beef Weigh-In and How to Feed Your Market Beef Workshop is available through the MSU Cascade County Extension office.
