Symplectic manifolds are an interesting class of spaces which appear naturally classical mechanics. In this example heavy talk, I will recall some basics of symplectic geometry and discuss a generalization to graded manifolds: shifted symplectic structures. The notion of submanifold compatible with ambient structure is fundamental in geometry and I will discuss Lagrangian submanifolds in the (shifted) symplectic setting. I will feature examples of shifted symplectic structures on spaces of maps between manifolds and classifying spaces.
