2019 Student Research Grant Program

This year the Montana Academy of Sciences will again award research grants to undergraduate and graduate students. These grants (up to $1,500.00) are intended to assist and enhance undergraduates and graduate students conduct research projects at any of the Montana Universities, 4-year Colleges, or Tribal Colleges.
Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines are welcome to submit a research proposal application to this competitively funded program. Disciplines of students that have been funded in the past include: biology (all sub-disciplines), biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, environmental and climate sciences, geology, physic, mathematics, and social sciences; as well as, several interdisciplinary fields. Each applicant of reviewed grant proposal will receive scores, ranking, and summaries of reviewers.
Awards will be announced at or soon after the 2019 MAS Annual Meeting and will be disbursed for research during the summer and/or the next academic year. Awards will be made to the grants office or office of sponsored programs for disbursement of funds through the normal channels for extramural funding at each institution. No indirect costs will be paid as part of this program. Students who receive funding are expected to present the results of their work at the 2020 MAS Annual Meeting. Grant applications are due March 15, 2019. Instructions for formatting, content, and submission can be accessed through the Academy's website at http://sciencemt.org/MAS/?page_id=178.
The 2019 Annual Meeting of the Montana Academy of Sciences will be held April 5 - 6 at Montana Tech of the University of Montana in Butte. The meeting will commence Friday evening with a poster session followed by the annual banquet. Oral research presentations, including presentations by all recipients of 2018 research grants, will be held Saturday morning and afternoon.
