“College Student Mental Health: A Status Update": University campuses across the nation are working to respond to greater numbers of college students seeking mental health treatment at their counseling centers. MSU has implemented a variety of efforts to support student mental health. This talk will explore common psychological and emotional issues facing today’s college students, responses by universities to address the increased demand for services on college campuses, and a review of best practices for providing mental health care to college students.
Bio: Dr. Asserson is a licensed psychologist and Director of MSU’s University Health Partners Counseling and Psychological Services, a comprehensive university counseling center which provides clinical services, outreach, and training to future professionals. While she has previous experience in outpatient community mental health settings, an inpatient setting, and as an adjunct professor, Dr. Asserson has focused her career on college mental health. She began her time at MSU in 2001 and became director in 2017.
