Honors Presents Credit "National Advocate for Inclusion and Empowering Youth with Disabilities"
- Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
- Ballroom A, Strand Union Building
Sara Minkara is the founder and CEO of Empowerment Through Integration. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the nonprofit organization promotes achieving an inclusive society through recognizing and eliminating stigma against disability, acknowledging and rejecting bias, and elevating respect for individual value.
A Lebanese-American Muslim woman who lost her sight at age 7, Minkara formed ETI while an undergraduate at Wellesley College with funding from a Clinton Foundation grant and expanded its programs and mission while earning her master’s degree in public policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Today, ETI says it reaches more than 1,000 participants annually providing support for individuals with disabilities.
“In all our work we strive to elevate marginalized voices and viewpoints and to promote robust, authentic respect for individual value,” Minkara said.
Minkara’s visit is sponsored by the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the University Speakers Committee, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, MSU Honors College and ASMSU.
