Megan Culbertson | Lost in Translation
- Monday, February 10, 2020 to Friday, February 21, 2020, from 10:00am to 6:00pm
- Exit Gallery SUB 212
"Women have closely been associated with birds, most strikingly with the metaphor of
the caged bird, representing the containment and oppression of women. Lost in Translation
investigates different levels of communication and what happens when our words are not
listened to and understood. The many translations that exist within this work, physically,
aurally, and linguistically, emphasize the importance of women to connect with each other
through their words, giving them power and agency over their voices. Magpies are said to be
able to translate the secret language of the birds. I ask you to join the magpies not only in their
translation, but to take a moment to look, listen, and be aware of the language that surrounds
you. Be quiet and listen to the birds."
Megan's show opens February 10th and will be open through February 21st. The reception will be held Tuesday, February 18th from 4-6 in the Exit Gallery, SUB 212.
The Exit Gallery is open Monday-Friday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.
