MSU Holistic Admissions Workshops w/ Dr. Julie Posselt and Dr. Casey Miller

The Office of the Graduate School at Montana State University is pleased to announce that it is hosting two online professional development workshops for MSU faculty, staff and administrators during the fall 2020 semester. Nationally recognized experts in the field of holistic admisssions, Dr. Julie Posselt and Dr. Casey Miller, will address the fundmentals of holistic admissions as well as provide strategies and offer support for enhancing equity-based applicant review processes. Workshop details include:
First Workshop: Sept. 10th, 2020, 2pm-4pm: Fundamentals
This session on Equity in Graduate Admissions presents data and research about the role of typical admissions criteria and practices in maintaining racial/ethnic inequalities in graduate education. Participants will learn how common admissions mindsets and practices tend to inhibit access for underrepresented groups, and they will be introduced to strategies to improve diversity and equity through holistic review processes.
Second Workshop: Sept. 11th, 2020, 2pm-5pm: Strategies
Building upon prerequisite knowledge from the Fundamentals workshop this session on Strategies for Equity-based Holistic Review is a hands-on workshop for graduate admissions committee members and department leaders. Committees will articulate and assess their current admissions and recruitment practices, learn how to develop an evaluation rubric that they can put to use, and engage in discussions that will help them anticipate common challenges that may arise in shifting admissions practices.
