CANCELED: Ecology Seminar Club talk on salt marsh microbial communities
- Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm
This event has been canceled.
The Ecology Seminar Club featuring Dr. Ashley Bulseco, Assistant Professor of Marine Science at Eckerd College in Florida, has been canceled. Dr. Bulseco's talk, entitled "Salt marsh communities in response to nutrient enrichment and other stressors" was scheduled for Thursday, September 3, at 3:30 p.m.
"Salt marshes, a type of ‘blue carbon’ habitat, are dynamic coastal grasslands that provide a number of ecosystem services largely mediated by microbes, such as nutrient removal and carbon storage. Despite their importance, we know very little about the microbial consortia inhabiting salt marsh sediments, how they respond to various human-driven disturbances, and whether shifts in microbial community structure and genetic capacity translate to changes in ecosystem function. This seminar will discuss both laboratory and field-based experiments designed to
characterize biogeochemical rates, shifts in sediment geochemistry as a result of decomposition, and changes to the corresponding microbial community in response to disturbance with a particular focus on nutrient enrichment."
Seminar recordings will be available later on our seminar web page at: https://www.montana.edu/ecology/seminar_fall.html
