Honors Presents: Mandy Rutherford - "Nuclear Power on the Horizon... Sunrise or Sunset?"

In this presentation Mandy will explore the current state of nuclear power in the US. She will dig into the question of whether nuclear power is a viable clean energy alternative. She will also give an overview of some promising, emerging nuclear technologies.
Mandy has a BS in Civil Engineering from MSU and an MS in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech. Prior to becoming a teaching faculty member at MSU, she worked for 7 years as a Technical Staff Member and eventually Program Manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Because of time spent at LANL, Mandy has cultivated an avid interested in the history of the Manhattan Project and nuclear technology and policy. She is married to Steve, who also teaches at MSU, and has two daughters ages 14 and 10. She enjoys hiking, nordic skiing, traveling and board gaming with her family.
