MSU Symphony Orchestra

The concert is based on Ideal versus Reality. Repertoire includes, Jessie Montgomery’s Banner, Vincent Persichetti’s The Hollow Men with Dr. Sarah Stoneback soloing on Trumpet, Eric Whitacre’s Water Night, and Jerod Tate’s Pisachi.
Programming for the concert came about from observing and pondering various events in our country over the last year. I have been saddened by the division and the polarization along with acts of hatred and aggression, and it made me reflect on how we can respond as an orchestra. It is our hope with this concert to do what art does well- provide a space and a medium to reflect and respond. We will do that with music, with poetry, and with visual art. Rachel Kurle, a recent grad from the school of art will create a visual response to the music and poetry as we perform. One of the livestream cameras will be dedicated just to watching her work.
