MSU Writing Center Fall 2021Graduate Writing Retreat
- Friday, September 17, 2021 to Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm
- Wilson Hall, 1-114 - view map
A writing retreat is an opportunity to schedule away all other commitments in order to focus intensively on your thesis/dissertation/professional paper for a good chunk of a weekend.
The main goal of the retreat is to grow your word count.
This may require unplugging from your social life, both online and IRL, and intentionally developing new habits to boost your productivity. And it will certainly require food! The MSU Writing Center will provide dinner on Friday and bagels on Saturday morning. Lunch on Saturday and other snacks are on your own.
Another goal of the writing retreat is to bring you together with peers who are facing similar writing challenges. By the end of the retreat, we hope to have created a supportive, motivating, and sustaining writing community not just for a weekend, but for your time in graduate school.
The retreat will be facilitated by the Writing Center’s graduate program coordinator, Erin Strickland, who will offer a short workshop on writing strategies and goal setting and will be available to read your work and provide feedback as needed throughout the retreat.
If you think a retreat sounds like a good option for you, check your calendar. If you can make the time commitment, register here and come join us at the Writing Center, where time for your writing can take the priority.
The retreat will be limited to twelve writers, so please fill out the registration form as soon as you convince your loved ones to let you disappear for a while. The deadline to register for this event is September 7.
