Dear Custer County 4-H Seniors,

Below are the descriptions for the Custer County 4-H Scholaships.  Please read applications completely and notice they are due April 15th. 

The application form for the Custer County 4-H Council Scholarship and the Jerry Lund Scholarship is the same. Please make sure to read the criteria for each scholarship, as they are different. Scholarships are due back to the office April 15th

 

Custer County 4-H Council Scholarship

Application Due – April 15, 2024 to the Custer County Extension Office

 

Purpose of the scholarship is to encourage individuals to continue their education after graduation from high school.

 

Applicant must have been a 4-H member for at least 4 years in the program administered by Custer County, and an entering freshman at a selected school. The 4-Her must be planning to enroll in an accredited Vo-Tech, Trade School, Junior College, Private College or University.

 

Applicant must submit the following:

  • Attached application form
  • Transcript of High School grades signed by school official
  • Letters of recommendation from
    • 1-4-H Leader,
    • 1-Academic Advisor,
    • and 1-from some other source.

 

Should the Selection Committee determine more than one applicant equally deserving. the award will be divided and presented to those members.

 

Selection of the scholarship recipient shall be based on the following criteria:

  • Scholarship
  • Citizenship
  • Desire to further education
  • Past 4-H accomplishments and support the member has shown the 4-H program

 

Three $500 scholarships may be awarded. This is to the discretion of the Selection Committee:

 

The Selection Committee shall be made up of 3 individuals:

* One Council Member

* One Educator

* One Community Member

 

Jerry Lund Memorial 4-H Scholarship

Application Due - April 15, 2024 to the Custer County Extension Office

 

Jerry Lund was born and raised in Custer County. He loved to ranch and farm and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was always eager to have young people come out to his ranch to learn about the many aspects of ranch life.

In his memory, a $1,000 Scholarship is being offered annually to a 4-H member who exemplifies Jerry’s belief in community service, kindness, integrity, and upon their full-time enrollment in an accredited college or university.

 

Additional requirements include:

Recipient must have been enrolled in 4-H for at least 4 years and have properly completed projects in at least one of these general areas.

  1. Animal Sciences
  2. Plant Sciences
  3. Natural Sciences

 

  1. Recipient must reside in 1 of the following counties:

Custer, Rosebud, Garfield, Prairie, Carter, and Powder River.

Selection will be made by a committee appointed by the following people:

County Extension Agent, or 4-H leader

Educator

Jo Beatty

 

If there are no sufficiently qualified applicants, no scholarship will be awarded for that year.
