Flathead 4-H Foundation Minutes April 12, 2025
Held at the Loon Lake 4-H Campground in Bigfork, MT.
Board members present: Wally Sutton, Rose McIntyre, Kristi Davis, Sandy Evenson, Joselyn Hawbaker, Lesley Hawbaker, Carol Olson-Erickson, Jill Kahanek, Rick Balestri
Board members absent: Scott Hinkley, Ashley King-Jones, Mark Campbel, Mark Blasdel, Emily Hall, Christine Kaupp

Meeting called to order at 1:20 PM by Carol Olson-Erickson.
Pledges led by - Joselyn Hawbaker
Secretary's report: Rose McIntyre moved to accept minutes as read with corrections. Joselyn Hawbaker seconded. Motion passed.
Treasurer's report - reviewed line items on the budget. Kalispell electric got a check to get started on the electric for the cabins. Wrote a check to Nick Merriman for tree removal. Top copy for raffle tickets. Check to Wyatt Hewitt for electric sweeps. For more information regarding checks written, please contact the Flathead County Extension Office. Wally Sutton moved to accept the treasurer's report. Sandy Evenson seconded. Motion passed.
Bills -Bill from Summit for fire suppression system. Bill from Anderson Pump and well. Sandy Evenson moved to pay the bills. Kristi Davis seconded. Motion passed. For more information on bills paid, please contact the Flathead County Extension office.
Committee Reports
Brick: Applications have been coming into the office.
Raffle: Tickets are ready to be given out. Email from Rick on club meetings.
4-H Council: All animal committees on track with clinics and LQA’s. Small animal committee is continuing their fundraising efforts to upgrade the poultry cages. The council will be receiving funds from Murdochs, thank you notes need to be turned in. For more information on Murdoch's funds, please contact the Flathead County Extension Office. Rec Lab took place in White Sulphur Springs, Lux Bain attended. 4-H camp will take place July 22-25, 2025. The Exception to Policy and 4-H Grievance forms were adopted. The exception to Policy is so member can ask for an exception to a rule along with the reasons why they should be granted the exception. The Grievance forms is for a member to put issues in writing after a 72 hour cooling off period and a limit of 10 days to turn in the form. Graduation corda have been ordered for all graduating seniors. Member and leader pins for last year were handed out to org leaders.
Camp report: Jill to check paper, discussion about 4th of July parade. Still looking for a camp cook, dishwasher. Discussed wages for dishwasher.
Scholarships: Scholarships have 6 available, 6 applicants, due April 17th. 3 graduating seniors,
3 for college kids.
Wally Sutton moved to modify scholarships to 3 graduating seniors and 3 colleges,
1 big one for $1000.00, the rest $500.00.
Rose McIntrye seconded.
Motion Passed.
Old Business- Livestock funds transferred to the team. Got stuff in from meeting. Name tags from
Phil will be $5 a piece with 10% discount added. Tshirt expenses discussed for camp. 24
shirts total for a discount.
Gifts for the mixer, 4 clubs to put something together. Lux Bain received money for
her robotics trip.
New Business - Grant- read the Great Fish grant paperwork, not for camp, for other 4-H programs.
Impact Questions need answered. Great Fish Challenge- out to all the board members.
Work section on April 23rd.
Hot water will need to be replaced, Well maybe coming, needs work. Water softener
system-Montana Pure Water Quotes from him/ upgrade for camp were discussed. Mildren
plumbing Quotes for all new system on new hot water tanks. Sandy Evenson moved to
2 water heaters for sure. Kristi Davis seconded. Motion Passed.
Mattress- 48 budgeted for the grant, 25 short, Jill to order and see.
The board members needed 7 new members. 1% to MSU. Wally Sutton moved to adjourn
the meeting at 3:03 p.m. Josely Hawbaker seconded. Motion passed.

Flathead County 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application
Scholarship opportunities:
Four - $500 scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors
(Must be an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing)
Two - $500 scholarships for Current College / Trade School Students
(Must have been an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing upon graduation from high school)
Please check the box for the scholarship you are applying for.
All scholarships must be used during the 2024-2025 academic year.
Please complete this scholarship form in its entirety. Typed answers are preferred. You may attach additional sheets of paper if your answers exceed the space allowed. Applicants must be currently attending or plan to attend a college, trade school, or other institution of higher learning during academic yr 2024-2025.
A complete scholarship application packet must include the following:
- scholarship application
- letter of reference from a 4-H Leader
- summary/resume of your 4-H accomplishments (i.e. projects, awards, trips, events, activities, etc.)
The complete scholarship application packet must arrive (not postmarked) at the Flathead County Extension Office no later than 4:30 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Scholarship applications must be mailed or hand-delivered to:

Interviews will take place after the May 30th, 2024 deadline. The Foundation will contact you to schedule a date and time.

Flathead 4-H Foundation is excited to
announce an opportunity to affirm your
place and provide a legacy for the
future at the Flathead County Fairgrounds!
Make your mark in the walkway that leads into the Grandstand Building. Have your family name, a 4-H member’s name, your business or organization’s name engraved in a brick on the walkway. You could even choose to engrave a brick in honor of someone special or create a family treasure for generations to come. We have lots of people that have spent much of their life in and around 4-H over the years and many have come through the grandstand building on their way to a livestock sale, or in support of one of their family members involved in 4-H. So honor your special friend, loved one, or family member with a commemorative engraved brick that will last forever in the walkway to the Grandstand building. Placement of the engraved bricks on the ground will be random.

Each 4x8 brick costs $100. Each brick can contain 3 lines with 20 characters per line. Please utilize the boxes below for your message. Please note - utilize only one character per box.
