Montana is one of the leading producers of seed potatoes, ranking 4th in production with an annual return of $40 millon.  In 2014, 3 million cwt of Montana seed potatoes were confirmed sold through shipping point inspection.  According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, 11,500 acres were planted in 2015.

Seed potatoes grown in Montana undergo rigorous testing and inspection to ensure high quality, disease-free seed potato tubers.  Most importantly, Montana produces a significant amount of early generation seed that is grown in subsequent years for certified seed production.  Visit the Montana State University Seed Potato Certification Program for more information.

We hope to provide Montana potato growers with reliable, science-based information designed to give reliable facts on diagnostics, pathogen biology, disease cycles, epidemiology, and current best practices.
