Description

Join professional fly-casting instructor and guide, Matt Wilhelm to learn about the basics of fly casting, and get started on a fun new hobby!

Session one will be a hands-on small group lesson and cover an introduction to the fly rod, rod management and basic fly-casting techniques to get you on the river. Rods will be provided; however, you are welcome to bring your own. Casting instruction and practice take place outdoors in a lawn area. Dress accordingly.

Session two will be a classroom presentation and discussion on fly selection and macroinvertebrate identification, to aid in your fly-fishing success. The classroom session includes participants from all OLLI at MSU Fly Casting classes.

Session one is limited to 8 people.

Bio for Matt Wilhelm

Matt Wilhelm is the owner of Yellowstone Fly Fishing School located in Livingston. Matt is a Fly Fishers International master certified fly-casting instructor and has taught thousands of people how to cast and fly fish since 2001. When not teaching fly fishing, he visits schools statewide to teach kids about their aquatic resources and how to protect them. Matt is also a licensed fly-fishing guide.
