OLLI at MSU Strategic Plan 2022-2025

Mission

As part of Montana’s land grant university, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at MSU provides intellectually stimulating and enjoyable programs that foster lifelong learning and community engagement for individuals 50 and greater.

Intentional Focus 1: Develop Community

OLLI at MSU will enable responsive engagement for members and broaden the scope of diverse, stimulating and enjoyable member-driven programming. (MSU Strategic Plan Goals 3.1, 3.2, 3.3)

Goal 1.1: Grow membership to serve a larger audience

General Metric: Through the implementation of this strategic plan, OLLI at MSU will increase its membership by 3% each fiscal year

Goal 1.2: Establish mutually beneficial partnerships to increase membership (e.g., senior living facilities, senior centers, non-profits, churches, museums, etc.)

General Metric: By Spring 2023, OLLI at MSU will be partnering with two new organizations in providing programming for shared member-audiences

Goal 1.3: Create activities to promote and increase social engagement for members

General Metric: OLLI at MSU will launch its first member engagement event in the Fall of 2022 and hold at least one event annually after that

Goal 1.4: Explore a satellite program to serve Montana communities beyond the Gallatin Valley

General Metric: By 2025, OLLI at MSU will research and document the feasibility of potential satellite sites, and associated programming

Goal 1.5: Pilot member-led Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

General Metric: By Fall 2023, OLLI at MSU will assess member needs and interests and draft guidelines and processes appropriate to piloting up to two SIGs

Goal 1.6: Increase understanding of members’ and potential members’ interests related to OLLI programming

General Metric: In 2022, OLLI at MSU will survey member interests and needs, schedule the implementation of actionable items, and provide for the regular re-assessment of member input

Goal 1.7: Broaden the pool of qualified instructors and diversify program content that is attractive to members

General Metric: In 2022, OLLI at MSU will design an instructor recruitment strategy for implementation in 2023

Intentional Focus 2: Strengthen Collaboration with MSU

OLLI at MSU will collaborate with MSU faculty, staff and students to promote MSU’s land-grant mission and foster long-term relationships and mutually beneficial partnerships. (MSU Strategic Plan Goals 2.1, 2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3)

Goal 2.1: Communicate how OLLI activities reflect, support and promote MSU’s land-grant mission

General Metric: By Fall 2022, OLLI at MSU will review its mission and, as necessary, revise its mission and update its literature, web pages, and other communications

Goal 2.2: Establish and grow mutually beneficial opportunities and relationships with MSU academic departments and units, faculty, and staff

General Metric 1:  By Fall 2022, OLLI at MSU will utilize targeted outreach to:

      • Publicize its mission, programming and relationship with MSU to MSU employees, OLLI members, and the public
      • Actively recruit MSU faculty and staff as OLLI program presenters

General Metric 2: OLLI at MSU will engage with current, prospective, and new partners to:

      • By Spring 2024, OLLI at MSU will partner with at least two MSU departments or units to feature the department or unit’s work in OLLI programming

Goal 2.3: Foster connectedness between OLLI members and MSU

General Metric:  In 2022, OLLI at MSU will document feasible campus-oriented member engagement opportunities for implementation beginning in 2023 

Intentional Focus 3: Improve Structural Capacity

OLLI at MSU will strengthen its capacity for sustainable growth.

Goal 3.1: Clarify organizational structure and processes

General Metric:  OLLI at MSU will review and, as necessary, revise its processes, organizational charts, and associated documentation by Summer 2022

Goal 3.2: Create a fundraising strategy and plan

General Metric: In 2022, OLLI at MSU will devise a development strategy and implement its first fundraising effort by Fall 2023

Goal 3.3: Increase the number of active volunteers

General Metric: In 2022, OLLI at MSU will recruit at least 50% of the volunteers needed to support its programming and event activities

Goal 3.4: Secure a dedicated space for programs and events

General Metric: By Spring 2023, OLLI at MSU will appoint a volunteer committee to devise and plan a strategy for short-term and long-term space needs
