Activities Requiring Protocols
All Human Subjects Research conducted by faculty, students and staff of Montana State University must be approved by the Institutional Review Board. This requirement applies to unfunded research, research funded by the federal government, and research funded by other sources.

Committee Duties
The Institutional Review Board will have authority to approve, require revisions to, or disapprove human subject research. For a proposal to be approved, the benefits must outweigh the risks to the subjects, conform to the ethical principles in the Belmont Report, and include appropriate methods for obtaining informed consent from the subjects.
