Dear MSU Community,

As you may be aware, federally funded offices and agencies face a possible shutdown next week.

Based on our experience from previous federal shutdowns in 2013 and 2018, we do not anticipate that a federal shutdown will have a significant detrimental effect on the four campuses of Montana State University in the short term; however, it is difficult to predict the impact of a shutdown on university business operations should one stretch into weeks or months.

This email is simply to raise awareness of the possibility of a shutdown of federally funded offices and agencies and to reassure you that Montana State University is prepared for such an event, should it occur.

No individual action is necessary on your part at this time. We are working directly with our units and direct reports and will continue to do so. Should a shutdown occur, we will communicate more information at that time.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
