Description of Request

Submitted By: Steve Erickson, Rec Sports & Fitness; Abbey Holm, HHD/Rec Sports & Fitness

As a result of the planned renovation of Marga Hoseaus Fitness Center (MHFC) the department of Rec Sports and Fitness (RSF) must relocate the offices of 9 staff members. Proximity to the fitness center complex is a big priority as multiple staff members will need to be in the dome facilities on a regular basis throughout the day. Many of the staff are equipped with laptops so have the ability to be mobile and "float". A private office for the Director has been requested. Approximate timeline for the temporary use of alternate space is 20-24 months, pending the completion of the Wellness Center.

Additionally, ACT courses for credit that have been historically held in Studios within MHFC will also have to be relocated during the renovation period. Quiet, open space is needed to accommodate approximately 11 sections of Yoga & Pilates ACT courses that meet 2x per week for 50 minutes each period beginning in Fall 2021 until completion of Wellness Center renovation. Minimal furniture moving is desirable.

Resolution

Date: February 5, 2021

The Space Management Committee has approved the temporary use of the following spaces, with a timeline of approximately 20-24 months, upon completion of the Wellness Center.

After several discussions with RSF and Athletics/Event Services within Brick Breeden Fieldhouse (BBFH),the following space solution have been identified and approved by the SMC:

  1. BBFH room 139 (194.44 sf), which is co-located with Athletic Academic Center. There are several entrances into the space and the room has desk space for up to 3 people. Occupants will be put on the building staff/pass list at BBFH entrances, which will allow access to office within building. On event days, some places may be off limits (North tunnel, for example) which would require slight modification to normal routes but otherwise minimal impact.
  2. Touchdown space in North Dome that will have tables for up to 2 people. RSF working with project manager and fire marshal to specify location.
  3. Outdoor Rec Building can accommodate up to 2 people with minimal modifications.
  4. Turf Building can accommodate up to 2 people.
  5. Private Office solution, Renne Library for Apx. 5 months until AIH opens at which time an office in Wilson would be allocated.

Approved ACT space solutions are as follows;

  1. SUB 168 & Danforth Chapel. Toni Lee & Butch Damberger have agreed to the use of these spaces to support student programs. The proposed schedule for the fall of 2021 is as follows:
           Danforth Chapel: 8am-1pm
           SUB Room 168: 1pm-4pm
  2. Space Planning and the Registrar’s Office are coordinating efforts to dedicate a classroom to ACT courses beginning in the spring of 2022, with continued use until the Wellness Center is re-opened in 2023. The reintroduction of Romney Hall and the opening of AIH will help to offset the loss of single room being set aside for ACT courses.
