Description of Request

Submitted By: Roland Hatzenpichler, Department of Chemistry

Roland Hatzenpichler currently occupies CBB 152 and 107A and shares half of 110 with Martin Lawrence. Due to recent success in acquiring grant funding as well as the successful application of an incoming postdoc for a NSF postdoc fellowship there is a need for expansion of space to support this research in 2021.

Currently, the lab has 7 members; 1 staff scientist (PhD), 1 postdoc, and 5 graduate students, with one graduate student expected to graduate in summer 2021. Two new postdocs and one graduate student will be joining the lab in 2021. The result is an increase in lab size by at least 3 people (4 new; 1 leaving), bringing the total to 10. The current assigned lab space can only accommodate 6 to 7 individuals, hence the need for additional lab space. There will also be a need for some additional instrumentation (incubation ovens, refrigerator, freezers, and a benchtop centrifuge), which will further occupy lab/benchtop space.

Resolution

Date: March 5, 2021

Space Management Committee, along with recommendation from the Reserch Space Committee, voted to approve the following lab, office and equipment room rearrangements; Dr. Hatzenpichler will maintain 107A, vacate room 152 and his half of room 110, and will then move to occupy the lab spaces in rooms 116, 118, and equipment and office space in rooms 120 and 122. Martin Lawrence will occupy 108 and expand his activities in room 110 once vacated by Hatzenpichler. Mark Young will then occupy the lab in room 152 and equipment room and office in rooms 150 and 156. The moves will provide Dr. Hatzenpichler the space he needs for his expanding research and provide for all three researchers to have space that is adjacent to each respective lab.
