Description of Request

Submitted By: Alison Harmon

The LIFE Scholars program has received a significant external gift to expand programming. An assistant director has been hired and the program will double the number of students this year. The Director, Christy Sofianek, is currently located in Reid 311, with Assistant Director and program interns located in Reid 310. The original plan approved by the Space Management Committee in August 2021 was to expand their space into Reid 309 once a faculty member was to be relocated into Reid 441 as a result of a vacancy left by the Science Math Resource Center (SMRC). However, since then the Troops to Teachers program has informed the college that their grant has not been rescinded, thus they are still in need of space. SMRC is still relocating into the suite of offices on the 4th floor of Reid Hall (rooms 408, 409 and 412) as it is a better fit for their needs. Therefore, in light of Troops to Teachers continuation of funding EHHD is requesting the following moves/spaces:

  • Move Troop to Teachers into Reid 442, 443 and 444. They have need to accommodate 3 staff and 1-2 graduate students
  • Relocate LIFE Scholars to space on the 4th floor vacated by the Indian Leadership Education and Development (ILEAD) program, as this program is no longer funded.
    • Director, Christy Sofianek, from Reid 311 to Reid 455
    • Assistant Director, Gabrielle Ratte, from Reid 310 to Reid 454
    • LIFE Scholars interns from shared space in Reid 310 to Reid 457
    • Reid 456 is a conference room that is immediately adjacent to these spaces and would be convenient for internship class, group support meetings, and mentoring meetings. The conference room would be available for other uses as well.
  • Relocate graduate students currently located in Reid 454 into Reid 441.
  • Reallocate Reid 310 (vacated by Gabrielle Ratte), to faculty member
  • Reallocate Reid 311 (vacated by Christy Sofianek) to a graduate student with approved ADA accommodation need
  • Dan Heil remains in Reid 309
