Description of Request

Submitted By: Jim Mitchell, Associate VP for Student Wellness, University Health Partners

UHP is requesting an alternative location to administer Covid-19 vaccines and conduct post-vaccine observation. As colder weather approaches, the tent site located in the Bobcat Stadium parking lot will no longer be a viable solution. The construction trailer purchased last year has been serving as a vaccine delivery site since May, and Covid testing is being conducted out of the tent due to fairer weather and access to fresh air. With the impending change in weather, those operations will need to move back into the trailer because it provides a warm waiting space for individuals who come to the site on foot and need to wait 30-40 minutes for test results. Space has been requested for vaccine delivery/processing, as well as space for post vaccine observation (15-30 minutes for each person). The timeline of use is immediately if approved through May 13, 2022.
After considering several space solutions with the requestor, staff proposes the use of the area immediately adjacent to the Bobcat Grill area on the first floor of the Strand Union Building. Currently, this space has tables and chairs and sees only minimal use by students as a study area with the closure of Bobcat Grill. Temporary curtain dividers or room partitions will be used to separate the space from the main corridor. Two areas will be available for use; a main for area for vaccine delivery and post-vaccine observation, and a secondary alcove area for vaccine preparation. Access to doors in southeast corner of the space will be maintained, and a curtain or temporary partition can be put in place as needed to create separation from the corridor.
This is a high priority matter for the University as we work to immunize as many faculty, staff, and students as possible and begin to provide boosters.

Resolution

Date: November 5, 2021

The Space Management Committee approved the temporary allocation of the open area adjacent to the Bobcat Grill, SUB 153, to University Health Partners for administering Covid-19 vaccines and conducting post-vaccine oberservation until May 13, 2022, at which time the space will be vacated.
