Description of Request

Submitted By: Planning, Design, & Construction

Due to the Facilities Yard Relocation Project, the Records Building on S. 5th Ave. will be repurposed. The extensive amount of physical paper records in the building are being reviewed to determine the need to save, scan, or dispose of the records. The Library currently has over 800 boxes of records in the building, which need to be removed and processed. They have capacity in Renne 037A for around 250 of the boxes and the space is already set up to review the materials. However, due to the quantity of boxes additional records storage is needed while the Library team sorts through materials. The Library and Facilities have identified Renne rooms 043 and 044 to serve as storage for these materials while they are reviewed. These rooms are in close proximity to 037A, which will support their review in a reasonable time frame. Room 044 is currently vacant and room 043 is a small meeting room for UIT staff, which is underutilized. Room 039 nearby is also a conference room for UIT staff, and there are several hoteling spaces in the library basement which can be utilized as needed, which should meet any meeting needs displaced by 043; UIT is supportive of the proposal. There are no additional requests for the space at this time.
