Gallatin College & NACOE Leased Space: 31950 Frontage Road
Description of Request
Submitted By: Stephanie Gray, Dean, Gallatin College; Doug Cairns, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering
In response to local industry requests and continued construction demands on our community, Gallatin College MSU has expanding its Workforce Development Programs. Unfortunately, Gallatin College lacks adequate space for program growth despite their increasing student enrollment and the community's desperate need for graduates in trades (e.g. Carpentry, HVAC, Welding, Machining, etc.). The Carpentry program was allocated space in Faculty Court 9 in March of 2022, but will now have to relocate due to the Facilities Yard Relocation Project. Additionally, the HVAC program is temporarily utilizing space provided by the Weatherization Center, but is in need of their own space as the program continues to grow. The newly leased space will accommodate a combination of these programs and has potential to accommodate a portion of the Drafting, IT Network Technology, and Cyber Security Information Assurance programs as well.
The Advanced Composites program requires additional space to support Defense contracts.
The space needs include room for an 80-100ft production line, supporting electrical,
air filtration, office space for 6 professional employees, fume hood, forklift access,
air conditioning (due to temperature sensitive manufacturing processes). Some existing
research components can be moved into the newly leased facility, resulting in portions
of Barnard 130 being vacated for expected incoming M&IE faculty new hires, and Shawnee
way being vacated reducing leased space costs. A portion of this space may be made
available for other occupants within the college of engineering.
Resolution
