Description of Request

Submitted By: Benjamin Clegg, Department Head of Psychology

The department of Psyschology requests lab space for two new tenure-track professors that have been hired, as well as lab space for the new Department Head of Psychology, Benjamin Clegg. Linying Ji arrived this fall and has already been assigned an office in Traphagen 303. Currently, CFT5 306 and 346 are occupied by the Human Motion Lab, but the space will be vacated in the spring of 2024 upon the opening of the Wellness Center. Synergies may exist between Professor Ji’s lab and the Sleep Lab located on the second floor of CFT5, so this is an appropriate fit. Room 346 will be utilized for lab work, and room 306 is an office that can be used for intakes and/or computers and graduate students. Another new tenure-track professor, Mayra Del Carmen, will be arriving in January of 2024. The department has set aside an office in Traphagen 305, and in order to create a faculty lab space for her, graduate students located in rooms 413 and 419 will be moved into Traphagen 426, thus freeing up this space to be utilized as the Del Carmen lab. Additionally, Traphagen 407 and 409 has been vacant for several years. This lab will no longer be utilized as a wet lab, rather, it will be used for analytical and data processing purposes. Thus, this room will require some renovations, including removing cabinets and sink etc., and the department has already engaged with Work Control to get an estimate for renovations and are prepared to fund the project. Upon completion of the necessary renovations, Department Head Benjamin Clegg will utilize this space as his research lab.
