Description of Request

Submitted By: Kirk Lubick

Dr. Seth Walk, Professor in Microbiology & Cell Biology, is scheduled to permanently relocate his laboratory from Cooley Lab into Molecular Bioscience Building (MBB) rooms 160, 162, 163, and 159. The space was previously allocated at the January 2021 Space Management Committee and is currently undergoing renovations. Unfortunately, the required renovations are not anticipated to be completed until the end of the year. Dr. Walk was recently awarded an NIH RO1 grant and given the current lab space in Cooley, it has been determined that it will not appropriately support the anticipated work outlined in the NIH RO1 award. To accommodate Dr. Walk's research, the department has requested the temporary use of MBB 229, 230, 232, 233 and 234. The intention is to relocate Dr. Walk into his lab on the first floor upon conclusion of the renovations to support the research synergies with other faculty and optimize shared equipment on that floor. Additionally, this move will be beneficial for the Microbiology & Cell Biology department, as it will create vacant space in Cooley Lab sooner to allow a new faculty hire to have space on the main campus.

Resolution

Date: April 5, 2024

Space Management Committee has approved the temporary use of lab space and supporting facilities on the 2nd floor of the Molecular Bioscience Building.
