Off the Yellow Brick Road - Survival Skills for the Great Outdoors

What do you do when your journey takes a turn for the worse and you end up in the ditch rather than on the Yellow Brick Road? The Survival Skills workshop will provide Rec Lab attendees the opportunity to learn the following survival skills (basic knife skills, primitive shelter building, survival fire building, key knots, map reading, and compass use).
Slicing Down the Yellow Brick Road

By the end of this knife skills workshop, each young chef will have the knowledge to make their cooking dreams come true - no magic wand required! Participants will create an instant pot meal, which they will enjoy at the end of class.
Wicked Textile Art
Janell Barber
This workshop combines fabric and science to create a hands-on simple project using dyes and resist techniques. We will discuss fabric characteristics and a few science-related concepts of why the dye wicked or not. Workshop participants will create a textile art project to take home.

Celebrating Year Round with 4-H Star Ornament

Creative hands-on workshop where you'll make your very own quilted ball ornament! Using 4-H materials and colors, you'll learn how to sew fabric pieces together to create a beautiful, festive decoration. Perfect for personalizing your holiday space or giving as a handmade gift!
Exploring the Science of Matter

Come explore the science of matter through the creation of three different substances called Glurch, Oobleck and Gak. Participants will be provided with instructions and recipes for each to be able to replicate at 4-H camps or other 4-H activities. Be prepared to get messy in this workshop!
Get You Some Gratitude

Gratitude, more importantly practicing gratitude has important benefits. Practicing gratitude improves mental health, physical health, builds stronger relationships, and help in difficult times. This workshop will provide you with tools to practice gratitude.

Create your own charcuterie board in this hands-on workshop using a variety of meats, cheeses, fruits, and accompaniments. Participants will gain valuable skills in menu planning, food safety, and budgeting, and will end the session by sharing and enjoying their delicious creations!

QPR: The Teen Toolkit for Supporting Others

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a proven suicide prevention training helping teens to have the tools they need to support their peers. Participants will learn how to help others who are facing a suicide crisis. Q.P.R. is how to have a conversation with others, it is also applicable to any difficult conversation, not just mental health.
Rug Making
Bonnie Radke and Laura Fisher
Participants will learn how to use scrap fabric to make their own braided rugs. This workshop will be interactive and crafty, with no previous skills required. Participants should plan to bring at least 2 old t-shirts or amounts of scrap fabric that they would like to use in their rugs.
Showmanship Made Easy
Lauren Tadman, Clara Holl and Sierra Gray
In this workshop we will cover the basics of showing pigs using physical props such as show brushes, pig whips, and beach balls to simulate a show ring environment. A short segment about goat showmanship explaining show tools will also be presented on.

Bringing 4-H to Montana's Outdoors
