District 5 Spring Newsletter

Dear District 5 Private Applicators,

While much of Montana is still under snow we are starting to experience the first signs of spring. This is a great time to start thinking about preparing your pesticide application equipment for summer. Look out for any wearing or breakage, replace any damaged or worn parts and calibrate your equipment. For more information on calibration see our MontGuide Calibrating Ground Sprayers Using Shortcut Methods, or see the Spring Preparation of Spray Equipment article in the Spring 2012 IPM Bulletin (page 6 and 7).

Paraquat Training Available

Recent measures passed by the EPA require applicators to have additional, specialized training when applying paraquat herbicides. This training is now available online. All paraquat pesticide labels distributed from manufacturers will require this training by fall of 2019. Applicators must take the training every three years and retain proof of training during this time period. For more information please read our recent news article titled Paraquat Training Available for Pesticide Applicators. For information on other measures required when using paraquat read our news article titled Paraquat Mitigation Measures Approved by EPA.

New Record Keeping Manual

A new pesticide Record Keeping Manual is available for Montana private pesticide applicators. This manual is updated and includes all required information to meet USDA and Worker Protection Standard record keeping regulations. The manual is available from the MSU Extension Store for $6.
